Today, I decided to start working out because my friends said I'm scrawny and weak. I bought an expensive giant container of protein powder to take before during work outs. I wasn't strong enough to open the lid. FML

make sure you read up on that stuff. it promotes Weight gain so if you don't work out consistently but still keep taking it, you will just be gaining weight (and you can take it before OR after the work out) but very funny FML

your supposed to take it after because your body needs and uses it to repair the muscles faster

It's a protein powder not a weight gainer. Protein is necessary to survive, but it is absolutely essential to bodybuilding.

Actually, depending on the brand you get, some will suggest that the powder be used before, some after, and some say to use it both before and after (the stuff my b/f has is of that last variety). It makes little to no difference when it's taken. And yes, it will cause weight gain. It's protein and calories; that's basically all there is to it. If you actually read a little bit you'll realize it isn't actually very healthy for you. It's the lazy/uneducated-man's way of feuling the body for/after a workout... It would be better to eat something high in protein *and* other nutrients, like a handful of nuts or something similar.

108 officially has no idea about what is necessary for op. He wants to build a bit of muscle, and has just started. He did not say he wants to be a proffessional body builder. Protein in a balanced diet is plenty, and taking supplements in his case is expensive and wasteful-he will just pass it out.

You remind me of Mr. Burns off of the simpsons

Best is to use it right after your training, then again before going to sleep (with milk so your body slowly absorbs it) then again in the morning. Also you can add some creatine.

Haha, that's like me and Propel water. You practically have to be an athlete to open the damn thing.

Fail. Your friend was right.

You're really pathetic. You do need to start working out. I'd recommend the same to #17, who can't open a bottle of propel.

You're really an asshole. Way to go, you little fucktard.

Protein won't really help you very much. Not unless you're going to be working out ALL DAY. But you probably aren't, so the protein from your meat and veggies should be PLENTY.

20) thankyou! Really there is no need to take protein powder unless you are working at an intense rate, say more than 5 hours a day. The protein in your diet is more than enough if you are eating a balanced diet. But really if you look at it logically, what are you really drinking? Powdered milk.
