I never ever have this issue. Because I keep no files on my OS drive other than a couple games (which can be easily reinstalled) and some programs, which can also be easily reinstalled.
This is why it recommends to back up important files before upgrading.
It's your fault OP. It says to back up your files before starting.
Am I the only one who didn't lose anything?
I upgraded just fine without having to select a keep option.
I call bullshit. I did the update while at work and when I came home my pc was ready with all files and software intact.
If you lost files you literally ****** up and didn't click the right button. GG and way not to backup everything like every tech person has been saying since at least 1993
Not sure what you all did... my upgrade worked just fine and all my old files and personal settings were still there
Linux! This is why you use it! Also for the sake of automated backups!
I use linux. But I always back-up before a dist-upgrade. Distro maintainers have been known to drop the ball. ANY upgrade, regardless of which OS you're using, has the potential to go pear-shaped.
I wasn't even home when my computer automatically upgraded to windows 10 and I kept everything, what you did was get rid of keep the files, gj lol

YOU HAVEN'T LOST EVERYTHING!!! in events like this Windows creates a backup. you'll find ALL your files in the "windows.old" folder. just search it up!!!
Don't trust them when it says it'll retain your old files, you need to always back up your files before upgrading or changing your OS. Sometimes Windows is nice enough to put your files in a folder on the Windows drive called "windows.old" which would be where everything you had on that drive before would be saved. However I don't know if they kept that feature in Windows 10.
