Today, I decided to work on my social anxiety by ordering some food. I waited in line, practicing my order in my head all the way. When I got to the front, I said my order with no mistakes. The cashier just stared blankly at me until I mumbled, "Never mind..." and left. FML

Aww. I know it's really difficult to do something like that with social anxiety. Keep at it! You can do it. You should be proud of yourself for trying and getting that far!

Hey, you still went up and talked to the guy? That's something to be pretty proud of in my opinion, congrats OP

I love how supportive most people are being here, that's kind rare for FML. Props to op for getting the courage to post this too.

It's lovely to see how many people are coming out in support for OP. It's quite beautiful.

Hey, at least you got your order right and decided to try and over-come your anxiety. Just do that as much as you can and you'll get better and feel less awkward with those kinds of situations.

Suggestion: try writing your order down on a sticky note or something. It makes ordering something complex easier for you, with social anxiety, and it also makes sure you don't get the dreaded "can you repeat that" or blank eyes. Edit: Give them the note.

As a person with social anxiety. I totally feel this, and feel it was rude for someone to just stare at you... Keep trying though!

Sounds like the cashier was being weird. I honestly would have gotten tripped up too if I just placed my order and they did nothing and just stared at me. Sorry that's how it turned out.

I know this has been said but really, congrats on being able to make it this far! As someone with anxiety I understand and it takes baby steps. Don't worry, you'll be okay and be able to take more steps soon!

Baby steps op! Maybe they were high or just couldn't hear you :)

maybe they just found you ridiculously attractive.

Good for you OP for making it that far at least. It's just a shame the cashier was such a jerk.
