seizure_girl tells us more.
Hi there. OP here. Temporal lobe epilepsy involves some pretty freakish seizures that are actually interpreted as religious visions by many. They're a very intense spiritual experience. I was fifteen years old, and spent the next three years as a devout Christian, my own logic at war with my profound sense of purpose. Then I turned 18 and discovered marijuana. Lo and behold, the "visions" disappeared, and I was an atheist again. I made the connection between the drug and the cessation of my fits when I stopped taking it and they came back. Epilepsy never occurred to me until recently, the first time I collapsed into a grand mal seizure in public. I picked myself up off the ground in confusion to meet a lot of stares, and a woman nearby informed me I'd had a seizure. The "aura" that I'd gotten just before blacking out and convulsing was the same as the onset of my previous "visions", the first real clue I'd ever gotten. And yes, my mother is an idiot. When I said that I'd had a seizure while she'd been across the fairgrounds, she accused me of being drunk and said she was disappointed in me for ruining our fun evening at the carnival.

wow! well at least now you know? good luck with everything. at least you know Moms got your back!
Fyl for the illness. Ydi for not seeing a doctor. Holy vision? Seriously?
Epilepsy is no laughing matter. You don't deserve this op, your mother is an ignorant and careless idiot. I can't believe you thought they were holy visions though also, that's stupid. I hope you get the necessary medical treatment now.
Tbf, we don't know how old OP is. If she's in her teens or twenties and started having these issues 10 years ago, her mother would've had a huge deal of influence over her, and it sounds like mommy's a little off. So I'm guessing OP never thought to question it because Mommy Dearest had her convinced she was the Second Coming.
It's surprising how common epilepsy gets confused with some kind of supernatural Influence. But when your brain gets that addled who can blame them. The mother on the other hand should have taken op to the doctor regardless of beliefs. Epilepsy can be dangerous.
When my boyfriend was a child he had what they called "absent" seizures. Instead of having a fit, he would just freeze up and remain motionless for a while. This would happen to him all the time and for years his parents thought he was just messing around but they finally took him to the doctor. I'm not defending the parents whatsoever, but seeing what my boyfriend's parents went through with him makes me think it could have been one of those things that didn't appear life threatening on the outside, just like my boyfriend's absent seizures.
If you look at OP's reply, and press the profile, it says she is 25.
OP hadn't replied yet when this thread started. But her reply does shed light on the situation. At 15, most kids are still very much under their parents' control, so it's unlikely OP could have gone to see a doctor without her mom's approval, especially given how dismissive her mom was at first.
This
If OP was under 16 at the time, aka a minor, it's possible that no medical treatment could have been carried out without parental consent anyway, even if she could get to a doctor and had the money to pay them.
Well unless you saw god they aren't holy visions...I got epilepsy at 20 and I knew something was wrong and saw a doctor, you are lucky you didn't hurt yourself or someone else
If my child had any of that, I would most certainly sit in the ER being in hysterics. And if I had it myself, I would call an ambulance. But...holy visions?
............Holy Visions???
You're not very smart, are you?
I wonder if Op is blonde?
Not just vision, but holy ones at that.. Smdh
Holy visions? YDI x1000.
Really? What if OP was a young girl in a religious household when she began getting them, that can be an easy assumption to make if you're just a kid, and if your mom agrees woth you at that age you usually believe it.
What's the difference?

Holy visions? Really!?
Yeah, I think the "holy visions" are as the parents who thought their child was possessed when he was actually suffering from seizures.
