Today, I disproved a scientific theory created by my supervisor. He was furious and said that I shouldn't have tried to disprove him. He told me to continue working with his theory and now he threatens to fire me if I publish my work. FML

Who cares? Publish it. Scientific advancement is more important than a job, and if you can disprove theories made by older and more experienced scientists, I'm sure you could find work elsewhere. Props for doing that, by the way.

Publish it, discredit him, and take his job. I understand that respect is important, but you will make a name for yourself if you do, and regret it if you don't. #1 beat me to it haha but plus why would you want to continue working for such an Asshole?

Seriously just listen to him he is your boss. Is it worth getting fired to try to be a smart ass YDI

He's not being a smart *ss, he's trying to advance science.

We're allowed to say ass, here. "Ass" See? Hell, **** is in the name of the website. You don't get more heavily from the seven than that. "You can prick your finger, but don't finger your prick!" :D

Academia and science is very full of politics. Reputation matters more than evidence for getting money. if OP publishes, he will go by way of Nikola Tesla when he worked for Edison. He'll be fired, blacklisted, and probably broke, with recognition coming years after its due

I'm a researcher as well OP so listen to me. Do what he says and get your degree. Then piss off and do whatever you like. You've been working too hard to let this little argument get in the way of your goals.

This tends to be the route most grad students take when dealing with that brand of crazy for a professor. A friend of mine is trying to get her MS secured first before she drops the hammer on her boss for all the batshit, unethical shit he's done over the years that our department has neglected to address. She went from a PhD to a MS just to get the hell out of that lab. Sadly, I've seen this happen numerous times. The whole process is a shit sandwich, and sometimes you just have to take a big ol' bite.

Publish it. True scientists welcome peer review. the fact that he doesn't blights the whole scientific community.

Publish your work. Someone else out there will hire you. Do t give in to his bullying tactics. His ego has been bruised and he obviously doesn't like being wrong.

Quit and move on with your work!

Publish it anyway. Even if he does fire you it will get you a job somewhere else probably

Publish it, science is much more important than one job.

Publish and let home know, the one be fired would be him rather than you
