That must've been very frightening for you, OP. What your mother did was horrible, even if it was for a good reason. It cause a great deal of mental, emotional and even physical pain and stress to find out a loved one is dying. To lie to someone about it forces them to go through that pain and stress when it's not necessary and is horrible thing to do. At least you were able to spend time with your brother. I hope he stays health and lives a long, healthy life.
