Today, I drove my new car with a manual transmission for the first time by myself. I was at a stoplight and saw a cute guy in the car next to me. He looked my way and gave me "the nod". The light turned green and I tried to go but I stalled out, lurching my car forward right into the car next to me. FML

YDI for not knowing how to drive a stick shift.

@4, have you ever stalled a car in gear? She prob popped the clutch without giving enugh gas which causes the car to launch forward and then stall fr not giving enough gas. So yes you can stall a car and lurch it forward, still though YDI for trying to race without practice.

also, I'm a woman and I taught myself how to drive a stick at 13. I have also been drag racing since 12 and race top dragsters so cut that shit about women drivers

Congratulations. This doesn't change the fact that in general, women are far worse drivers than men.

Wow, someone needs to take their medicine and get back into bed... I didn't think the criminally insane could use computers.

YDI for being american and not knowing how to drive manual transmission

YD for being a woman driver. Woman should leave technical stuff to guys. They aren't good with tech.

How did you lurch "forwards" and into the car "next to you"?

@71 too much gas not enough clutch wouldnt stall the car.. itd just be a jerky ride or a nice burnout. my proof of this? Im constantly burnin out in my civic si... by revving high then releasin the clutch

I'm a bit confused by this, but I do find the "Women can't drive lol" comments disgusting. A big **** you to everyone who says such things, especially the guy who said that women aren't good with technical stuff.

not all women are bad drivers! I learned how to drive stick at age 17, and taught my husband how to drive stick too. If you weren;t comfortable with driving stick yet, you should have gone to a parking lot or something and practised.. driving around town and not knowing how to properly control a stick shift can be very dangerous, especially when trying to cross over intersections and such.

Good for you for buying a manual transmission! You might not be used to the clutch yet but most of these people deriding you couldn't even start the engine. You still deserved it.

Agreed, yay for driving stick. However, leave more space b/t you and the car in front next time...

You need to stop driving cars in the kitchen.
