OP, your story is a real down pour. Wetter you believe it or not, the sun will come out tomorrow and dry those soaked seats. You should dry off and don't let the rain drop your spirit. He could have driven to the store, bought duct-tape and garbage bags, then driven to some place with a roof, like a gas station. Seal the window shut and be on his way. Well thats what I would do, I'm not the kind of person to just sit in the moment and complain about it.

...but it's an exception if you're american and so say something like "from oregon to new jersey" or something like that. cos, y'know, you're american and everyone in the world must know the exact geographic location of every city and state. ps i know you're irish, this was aimed at most americans :)

totally agree with #29, I'm aussie and I wish I had a dollar for everytime i heard a social conversation start about how most but not all americans know next to nothing about anything outside their own borders, it's a widely shared opinion with a lot of people in australia..
