I'm sick and tired of hearing people saying that the BSA and NAVY are are pitiful. FYI, most bsa eagle scouts will have much better careers than your average american. The NAVY is one of the most powerful military presences in the world. These two organizations achieve far more in a single day than you would in your entire existance. How'd you even know what boy scouts is like when you're clearly a girl or a trannie?
What's the FML here is it that the guy you thought was a hero was really a drunk high guy...?
how is this an FML? You made your decision. It shouldn't change just because your leader's original motivation was different. if you really wanted to join then he instructed you properly. If not, then you need to start taking responsibility for yourself and not expect others to. Actually, the military might help you out in that area. Joining the military is something to be proud of, not complain about like you were somehow duped.
wtf how is this a fml
YDI Navy sucks. Air Force FTW!
57% of people in the navy join like that
For one thing signing up and joining is the same thing. Also since the wait to go to boot camp is a year now you do not have to leave. You can quit anytime before you leave for boot camp. I should know I just enlisted last January and my recruiter has explained it all to me.
Also to #70. How is it dumb to join the military? With this economy joining the military is better than college because you have job security and excellent benifits. College doesn't do squat except give you an education. Plus how is it dumb to defend your country? Obviously your not brave enough. I joined the Navy and I am very glad I did because 4 years down the road I will have achieved more than most people my age and I will have seen more of the world as well.
so navygirl, just so you know you didnt necessarily have to wait a year between "DEP'ing in" and leaveing for boot camp, whoever told you its supposed to be a year lied. I elisted and left in 4 months, the only reason i had to wait that long was because my MOS is sent to boot camp far and few between. Also, while joining the military in this economic situation is a bright idea, the Navy IS on a downsize and always looking to get rid of sailors. So for your future reference on that, just make sure that when you stand out from the rest of your shipmates, its for good reasons.... Hope to see a in the fleet
# 75 NavyGirl " College doesn't do squat except give you an education." wow..... All my college did for me was give me scholarships, an education, and 2 exchange programs to Turkey and Tanzania. And I still got to help people by working for NGOs, and didn't have to worry about the misogynistic discrimination rampant within the armed forces BECAUSE many of them don't have an extensive education. Enjoy your life of unecessary servitude. # 89 Hahaha, that's exactly what I was thinking.
Yeah #99 derriduh. . . so you got all kinds of scolarships and got to go to turkey or whatever. Did college pay 100% medical coverage? Did college provide free housing on base? Also military pays for college so I can do both. Also I'm not worried about being treated like crap because I'm a girl I have loads of friends in the military who say they have never had any gender discrimination. Whoever or whatever gave you that idea was wrong. Also you got to go to two foreign countries that not many people care to see I get to go to many many more countries such as Italy, Japan, Australia etc. . . . I would rather be in the military serving my country and saving a crap load of money because I won't have rent or untilities and I won't have to pay medical coverage and if I eat in the chow hall for most meals then I don't have to pay for food either. So I guess it's safe to say your the type that prefers risky college and I'm the type the prefers job security and payed college while doing something that most people consider honorable.
I'm sorry that people in the military risk their lives.God forbid they think they deserve respect.I forgot that civilians risk their lives and some of them fight on the front lines. How about you stfu and give respect to those that deserve it.And not all servicemen/women act like that. Most of the people I know don't act like that, and I'm a USMC wife.
Well, I'll admit it's not usually the soldiers themselves doing it, but everyone around them (like you, apparently) and those pricks in the ROTC at college who think the military is the greatest shit ever but don't know what the **** they're talking about. Also, theres a space after periods.

You're old enough to join the navy and still in the boy scouts?
@ 1: Maybe he enlisted as a result of his former Boy Scout leader, but yes you can still be in scouts at age 18. OP: If he's a real inspiration and encouraged you to enlist, how did you not discuss his motivation to join until now?
