Hey, OP here. I just thought that you guys might be interested in knowing that the contest was actually rigged. One of the judges and the winner were in cahoots, and they halved the prize money. They were found out and had to return the money. I still wasn't ranked high enough to win though, but at least now I lost to someone who submitted actual art.

Next year I will beat you with a doodle of boobs. I call it "Life and Sustenance"
Would "Sex and Sustenance" not be better for bewbs?
Yeah, but not for critics. They don't want anyone to know that all they think about all day long is sex.
Art is always unfair, no specific rules
I can't believe they would call that art. I have seen paintings of a big red circle and for the life of me could not fathom how something as bland could be considered art. I think we need to go back to the beginning and start drawing and painting real things.
That sounds like the flag of Japan to me :p
Nowadays there is no point in drawing and painting real things and trying to get them looking right, when everybody can just snap a photo of it. But drawing something real with a twist that makes it absurd can be really cool (I love Escher and Dalí for example). Also, there are a lot of cool artists that draw elaborate phantasy pictures. I just don't get the people who half-ass a splotch of color and claim it to be art.
I've never painted a thing in my life, so by the logic of that guy, I'm a conceptual artist.
This is what our society has devolved into. We have great artists and writers but the assholes that get recognized can put no effort into something and bullshit their way to the top because of the stupidity of the public. Thanks to this kind of bullshit 50 shades of grey and blank canvas are acclaimed and people don't even know about masterpieces like The Great Gatsby and The beauty of works such as Raphael Santi's School of Athens.
There is a visual aspect with regard to elements and principles of design, and the dedication and hard work one must partake in to accomplish a solid, appealing piece... and then there is the concept, a deeper meaning or statement, that a piece can tell. Personally I enjoy when these two things overlap. If I have to choose one or the other, it will always be the former. Modern art has a place, but the pretentiousness that goes along with it is unpalatable to me. Simply liking a subject is as valid a reason to make art as any other and it is absurd when punished in competition. Sorry, OP.
I read this 4 times.. still I contain no clue what so ever
In other words, for all you people who can't understand #22: Art has 2 parts to it: the appearance and the meaning. #22 likes it when an art piece focuses on both parts. She also can't stand the bullshit in modern art. Her finishing statement is a bit ambiguous though. perhaps some clarification is warranted there...
They got paintings mixed up...that's how you lost
Your fault for waisting your thyme with art.
Now, if only the time you save not caring about art could be used to learn how not to rely so much on autocorrect.
isn't that why Wilson Fisk bought the white canvas in daredevil?

Art always confused me. You have great artists winning nothing and not having their work known, while other artists draw nothing but a blue line and sells it for millions.
You can always start again with a blank slate
