Today, I felt like adding my real middle name to my facebook name to make it look more professional. It was denied because they didn't feel it was a legitimate request. Minutes later, someone with the name of "Galactic Toast" friend requested me. FML

They can. My friend changed her name (something about a publishing name... whatev) and they denied her first request. So she took a few weeks to do it sneakily, changing one or two letters at a time until she changed it completely.

I had the exact same prob (first and last name = two syllables, not oriental either.. wanted to add some depth) but repeated retries got it eventually. Must say though I didn't have any random toasts try and friend me in that time - fyl

From the wording, I think that OP had a long and ridiculous fake middle name first, so changing it to his actual middle name would make him seem a bit more professional.
