Today, I finally get to go home after a 16 day training event in Colorado. The plane has been sitting in the runway for over three hours due to lightning storms and we're not allowed to leave. We've spent more time on the ground waiting than the flight itself would take. FML

It's frustrating when the weather's involved :( All for your safety though! (:

You can get off the plane easy. Just have a "claustrophobic breakdown" and I'm pretty sure they would let you off, or you would just known as the person that went crazy on the plane. Either way it's worth it.

Go watch some Air Crash Investigation, then decide if you are going to whine or not.

Today, the airline industry decided to try not kill me in a stormy plane crash, FML.

Try the same but for a transatlantic flight.

This isn't even possible. Not only is there a 3 hour Tarmac delay rule, but planes don't sit on the runway unless they are ready to take off.

Not to mention, I work in the aviation industry, and the situation you are describing would have caused a ground stop to Denver. that has not happened in the last several days.

FML's take a while to be submitted in some cases. Can't deny the possibility of happening before. And Denver? Did they mention the airport? Nope.

I just checked ground stops at DEN myself and haven't seen anything. Just flew through the other day and all was well. How odd. O_o

Interesting... Over a year ago, the DOT initiated the tarmac delay law which punishes airlines for holding passengers "captive" on an aircraft for extended periods of time. If delayed for more than 3 hours, the airline MUST allow passengers to get off the aircraft (except for security reasons). Maybe it just felt like hours? If not, the airline gets fined up to $27,500 a person onboard. Do you mean you are waiting to board? If there's lightening in the area, no one is allowed outside (ie. rampers to load bags) therefore you'd be delayed. Just remember, it's all to keep you safe so you can get home. :-D

Ugg are you serious? I'm in Colorado for college and can't WAIT to get back to Texas. Other than the purdy mountains and the beer plants everywhere, there's not a SINGLE THING good about Colorado.

that shit is illegal now. they are supposed to send you back to the gate so you can exit the plane after so long. oh yea, they also have to pay you. there are many things the airlines do not want you to know....

A case kinda like this happened recently - they were stuck in the plane for 7 hours. No food or drinks. No explanations. And sure they were planning to investigate, but it wasn't seen as illegal.

The case you are referring to was a Middle East Airlines flight scheduled from London to Beirut... It didn't happen in the US, therefore not subject to DOT rules. The new tarmac delay rules (14 CFR Part 259) went into effect in April 2010.
