Today, I found a job after two years of searching. I excitedly called my best friend to tell her the good news. She decided break her own news about how she quit yet another good paying job and found an even better one within hours. FML

This actually happened a couple months ago, but I'm currently very happy with my new job (I work as a sales associate for my local grocery store, if you're wondering). I WAS very happy for my friend but I couldn't help but to be irritated at her luck of continuously quitting and finding jobs with ease (She works with elderly people). I had been near the breaking point when I finally got the job. My best friend, however, has continuously quit jobs and gotten new ones in no time. We obviously work in different fields and, even though I seemed jealous, I was very happy to hear she was able to land on her feet after quitting her job. We joke about it now and she apologized if she seemed rude and all is fine. :) I love the people I work with and am getting good pay. Win win! We're both happy with our current positions and things couldn't be better!

It must be a rough life being a Political Science Major. FYL OP

jealousy isn't a pretty thing, be happy for your friend :) and I am glad you got a job too!

How could she possibly find a good paying job within hours? While "good paying job" is very relative to different people, I still have my doubts...

She probably got some of those jobs due to the fact she was employed at the time she applied. By the sounds of it, you weren't but she was. Getting a new job is easier when you already have one. Anyway, good luck with your job OP. :). All the best.

Thanks much, #42. :) Also, she got the job after quitting the other. Some people get all the luck! :P

Spend every waking second putting 24/7 into something and you'll have it sooner than two years. Seriously what the **** is wrong with you?

Some fields of work can land you a job writing seconds. For example, nearly every restaurant is constantly looking for new waitering staff, and while some have high standards, others are. Working with elderly sounds like that type of job. Most people would refuse to work in such "demeaning" jobs, though there isn't really anything wrong with them.

I imagine your friend was able to find work easily because of two things: she's good at politicking, and she's in a high-demand field. The baby boomers are getting old, so jobs where you're working with the elderly are going to be available almost all of the time. My mother is a registered nurse working as a floor manager for a nursing home, and, for the past 7 years, she's had to hiss and shake sticks at all the nursing homes and hospitals interested in hiring her.

I understand your pain of looking forever for jobs...I have a hard time finding jobs, but I know someone who can have 2 or 3 lined up in a matter of a few hours. It's irritating as all hell! Hopefully I get lucky like you and find a job soon .-.

That's what happens when u pick a field with high demand I did the same thing quit a job without notice and had 5 offers 2 weeks later

She has a high demand skill set. Just be glad she has it. But I would also suggest training in another field if you're still worried about job security.

What kind of black magic is your friend working?

"Effort", it's this magical word lots and lots of you people seem to be afraid of

Obviously you need to work on your reading comprehension, because OP made it clear that she'd been putting in effort from day 1. Sometimes people are lucky, and sometimes people aren't. The job market has been difficult, and it's not fair to imply that an individual is lazy just because they haven't been able to find a job.

**** her rain on your parade, OP! You're employed. Congrats!!

What does your friend do? Work as a prostitute?
