Today, I found out I have Raynaud's, a condition where your veins basically shut off all blood flow to your hands and feet if you get cold. Turns out "cold" for me is anything below 70 degrees. Oh, and I live in Ohio. FML

there's a few treatments that help stop the vasoconstriction, but most have side effects (of course!) so a first course of action is just to bundle up...which believe me, doesn't work nearly as optimally as it should! And yup, purple/grey feet when they warm up! Some people have really severe cases where open ulcers + gangrene can occur and yes, they really do lose fingers and toes :(

Wow. You should move to Florida or somewhere that's mainly always sunny!

I have the same problem and I also live in Ohio. I wear my coat and fingerless gloves all the time during class and when I got out. I bought a heater for my room and I have a bed warmer so I'm never cold at my house but when I go out...ugh it sucks. Just from getting in my car in the morning when its really cold within a few minutes my fingers are numb and white. I feel your pain.

My sister had Raynaud's disease. It came out her junior year of high school when a lot of things were going on in her life and she was really stressed out. She ended up on some sort of blood thinners to help counter act the symptoms. She went to college in Virginia which was warmer than Connecticut where we grew up but during the winter months she still had some issues. My fiance who had suffered from RSI in the past cured it using Dr. Sarnos book and other testimonials online. He suggested it to my sister and she is now cured as well. I wouldn't be so quick to knock what Gyrene is saying. You can put on tons of clothes, move some where warm, and have a high heating bill or you can read Dr. Sarno's book and find the cure. Doesn't hurt to try!

I personally don't doubt that it *can* work. That doesn't mean it *will*. The arrogance is the problem I had with Gyrene's posts.

dude, I have the same thing. I live in Florida and it still sucks.

Thanks to all of you that were gave kind words! :) Or offered knowledge/new places to live!, haha. For all the "suck it up," ones, yeah I do--I grin and bear it, but it felt good to shout it out. I didn't exactly find out today, but you know, you have to post it like that. I only found out what it was last year when i gave up and went to the doctor...got tired of my feet turning white/grey. It can actually be pretty frikin' painful, to those of you that don't know. And people have different levels of it. It can cause ulcers that don't heal in some people, but I'm lucky to not to have had it progress that far yet... though it's in my hands now, too. I was going to post as "pere," but I thought "iceicebaby" was tacky enough to be remotely amusing ;)

I meant to add in the original post a bit about basically being able to "get frostbite at room temperature"... that was the whole point of putting the 70 degree thing in... haha, oh well :P

I have raynauds, and it aint that bad, you just wear extra socks, gloves, scalf, like youd wrap up normally in cold weather :) you learn to deal with it.

extra clothes don't always work...and different people are affected differently :/

Ignore the stupid idiots telling you to stop whining because THEY CHOOSE TO LIVE SOMEWHERE ELSE. Not your moment, hunnies. Well that sucks. Try to cope with it the best ways you can, hopefully you'll have a cure soon!

I've had reynauds since birth... deal with it. :D seriously though, knowing you've got it doesn't mean it'll be worse, only difference is you know what it's called.

Gross - I live in Ohio too, so I know how crappy it gets here. And as much as I hate it, I wouldn't leave either - my family, my life, and my job (not to mention my license to practice) are here.

^ exactly! Not everyone can just pack up and move at the drop of a hat
