Today, I found out I have to give my father-in-law back the football tickets he gave me for my birthday. Why? His girlfriend decided she wanted to go. He didn't get me a different gift. FML

For his birthday, buy him a hot tub, then say "oh nvm, I think I'll use it instead."

If you want to "keep the peace" and give the tickets back, your asshole-in-law will think he can get away with doing whatever shit he wants and will continue to do so. Get your spouse involved and tell them what a fucktard their father is. Hopefully you'll join forces against dad and let him know it's not acceptable. If not, then good luck in that marriage!

You're right!! Stand up to him now or get walked all over from now on. Don't look at him as a father figure and jus go to Buffalo Wild Wings, they'll have that game and more and other people to meet and have fun :)

That would have been an awkward conversation, "you know those tickets I got you for your birthday?" "oh yeah! I'm really excited for that game." "well I'm gonna need those back" "what?seriously?" "yeah, happy birthday"

If my FIL demanded the tickets back and he wasn't gonna buy me another gift, I would have told him to **** off and kept the tickets. Apparently, he forgot that when you give someone a gift, it's THEIR property now.

Not meaning to insult Indians or Native-Americans, especially as I'm part of one of these groups, but OP's father-in-law is an Indian giver! Shame on him! Does he know nothing about social etiquette?

Tell him to go **** himself. A gift is a gift there's no way you should give it back. He's being a selfish ass.

Just tell him no...send him some pics from the game too

Why would you give them back? I'm not even a football fan, but i still wouldn't give them back, without a much better replacement gift. That took balls to even ask.

No, you DO NOT have to give back your gift. **** that shit.
