My aunt was 12 when she married the first time but didn't have a child til her second marriage at 17. But yes back then teens were more mature and could also get some jobs at a younger age to support their family.

Sex at 16 is legal in lots of countries. Sex at 13 is just kinda icky.

Even two school years isn't always true. It depends on when you're born. I was born in September so my birthdays were 13 in 7th grade and 16 in 10th grade. The two school year thing doesn't really work unless the 16 year old is held back.
