Today, I found out my dad bought an iPhone. I've spent the better part of the last six months teaching him how to check his email and online newspapers. FML

I think OP means it's going to take alot longer than six months to teach their dad how to use an iPhone.

I understand, OP spent 6 months teaching him to use his email and look at online newspapers (which is a pretty basic thing to do) so will now have to spend ages teaching him how to use his iPhone.

Are you pissed off that you didn't get the iPhone? Or as you mad your father wants to ask his child for help? Good God Op, he raised you (?) and obviously is in your life, so unless you hate the bastard then why wouldn't you want to help your father? Wow six months! He changed your diaper, fed you, paid for you and with his own money bought a phone he wants you to help him with. And "oh six months of my life wasted!" I am sure is really, once or twice a week when you see him he asks you how to work the applications. So get off your high horse and realize if this is the WORST POSSIBLE THING TO HAPPEN TO YOU, WORTHY OF FML STATUS then you obviously didn't have that hard of a life. You seem to be, reasonably educated, with a father who can afford a phone and who talks to you, respects your opinion, and perhaps, wants to spend time with you doing something you both might bond over? Yea, waaaaay to have the worst life in the WORLD. My god man, you poor unjustly burdened bastard.

I don't see the FML either... you taught your dad how to use email, then he bought an iPhone. Maybe this is a special kind of Norweigian FML, but the rest of us don't get it. And if you spent the "better part" (i.e. more than half) of the last 6 months teaching your dad how to use email... that's over 2300 hours of email usage instruction. Very improbable, even in Norway.
