Today, I found out my upstairs neighbors filed a noise complaint against me for banging on the ceiling every night. They conveniently left out the part where they constantly stomp, shout, and do stuff that sounds like they're dropping bricks to the floor every night. FML

Ahh classic hypocrites... Maybe you should move

File a complaint yourself OP or record them making a lot of noise. If you have evidence like that theres no way you wont be taken seriously.

File a complaint. I used to live above someone guy in his 60's or 70's who swore I was making all sorts of noise. I never did and the walls were thin and lots of the neighbors were noisy, one day he responded by pounding on my doo and later threatened to get me evicted. I told him I would file a harassment claim with the complex because I had spoken about with him before and it wasn't me. Apparently also the guy wasn't all their and since I threatened to file a counter claim he left me alone.

Legally they have a case. You became a nuisance through a malicious act, they can take you to civil court. You should have filed a complaint against them and use the proper adult way to deal with the situation.

You need to record their noise and play it to the staff members of your apartment complex. You should also have one of those members come to your apartment and listen for themselves. I have the same issue with my upstairs neighbors and after many letters sent to them for noise violation that they ignored they now have until the end of the month to move out. Their noise level was so loud the neighbors on the third floor above them even complained numerous times.

Hm unless it just wasn't included, I feel like you should have gone up and talked with them before getting the broom out...

You should have complained about them instead of banging on the ceiling..

Ummm how about just make a call to the office or you know walk upstairs and ask if they could keep the noise down.

Here's an idea. Why don't you go to the apartment management and talk to them about their activities. Maybe even record some cell phone sound and video footage. Of what happens on a general night and show it to management. Either don't have to be respectful of you or ask to be moved to a different apartment even though that will be quite the pain in the butt to move.
