Today, I found out that, after having moved over 500 miles to begin a post-graduate degree, I'm being kicked out of the house I'm renting. We haven't yet signed agreements. Apparently I "keep the kitchen too clean". FML

File a report or do something, not sure how things work in the UK, get new roommates. that's some major bullshit.

Eww you're one of those people who wash their hands after using the restroom too I bet. That ***** nasty brah.

List that on your next application as an asset. I would live with you!

I've been in a situation where too much cleanliness caused a problem, so I can kinda understand the roommates. Where I lived during university we kept the house reasonably clean during the week and then cleaned really good on weekends. We got one new roommate who decided that that wasn't good enough and she would deep-clean the place for an hour every day. consequently there wasn't much cleaning left for the weekends. Well, after a couple of months she started bitching about how she was the only one who did all the cleaning and how we should at least pay her. In the end it ended in her moving out and getting her own place. TL;DR: I can see why they might have thought too much cleanliness could pose a problem.

I'd bet it's a lot more common than you might imagine. Different people have different standards, and in practice, the finickiest person almost always winds up cleaning because they get to their threshold first, even if it's just a little bit earlier than everyone else. And, of course, they always feel self-righteous about having higher standards than everyone else.

It is pretty common my gf and I have that problem. I like to keep things clean, but I'm pretty laid back. She sees the same thing and thinks "it's a mess" and goes through periods where she'll do the equivalent a spring cleaning randomly because it's not up to her standard. Had a friend that lost 2 room mates that were friends because she didn't clean and the roommate ended doing everything. Really depends on the person, I've had friends nice as they are I wouldn't live with them because laid back as I am I know they wouldn't pull their weight as far as keeping the place nice.

is that even possible to keep a kitchen " too clean"? most people would love having a tidy kitchen guess not that person who kicked you out hope things turn around for you OP

There is no such thing as too much purell.

well damn, wish you were my roommate

You probably "cleaned" out someones secret stash in the kitchen by mistake.

Are you renting the house all by yourself or have roommates that get bitched out by you every time they leave one dish in the sink and not able to live up to your "too clean" standards? I can see living with someone anal retentive as annoying and not something I would want to tolerant if I didn't have to. Also-- Should have protected yourself and gotten something in writing. That's a big move without a guaranteed place to stay.

Hey I hear some guy is trying to ditch his roommate that bought a parrot....

The thing is they didn't sign agreements so he has no protection.
