Today, I found out that just because you express mail something, it doesn't mean the post office won't still lose it. What did they lose? My signed marriage license. We spent all that time and money to get married on the day of our choosing, and our marriage isn't even valid. FML

Thank you for your kind words. People don't understand that we did everything to get it there on time and backed it up with express mail which is overnight delivery to ensure or very important document was received on time. The sad thing is, those employed at the post office just don't care.

That's really bad. I feel for you. Post offices aren't reliable like they were at one point I guess.

You should definitely file a complaint I'm sorry that your big day got ruined by a technicality

Can you sue for that sort of thing? I mean, when you express mail something, they gaurentee it will arrive somewhere in a certian ammount of time, and well, it doesn't look like it got there. And you can probably complain about them losing it too.

Their policy now is basically to apologize and move on. Their customer service sucks, just like the airlines.

You could be gay. YDI for being inconsiderate.

The person that married you has to submit something to the government agency that issues the licenses. Mine wasn't filed correctly and our marriage is still valid for that date.

It matters little. You love each other, and will always be there for each other. That's what matters. Not some government paper.

Apparently, I must make myself clear as there are a lot of people commenting without any knowledge. We paid $70 for the marriage license in advance and we had to sign our portion right then and there, as here in California you can't just walk in and get married. After we said our vows on our set wedding date in front of 80 friends and family, we had our officiant sign, our witnesses sign and then once everything was signed it was taken to the post office to be mailed. Express shipping is overnight shipping which we had to paid for to guarantee delivery date the next day. The mail person screwed up and our envelope disappeared never to be tracked or heard from. Yes we are considered married as the necessary license was signed, however without it being recorded I am unable to get a marriage certificate which allows me to change my last name. For the YDI people - wrong. For the person saying i married for the wrong reasons - you're an idiot. I married him for love. I need that piece of paper to validate my last name to escape the name I was birthed into from an abusive father. Is that enough for you judgemental people?

Why would you post on a site intended to judge people and then get huffy when people judge you?

Point taken. But I was fully explaining the situation and then let my emotions get the best of me. It happens.

Deep breath! In, out... I get pissed off with all of the negativity on this site too... It's all going to be fine now sweetie. Bless u and your husband. X

Yeah. You. Get. Another. Copy. Quit yer whining FFS. ENOUGH about your effing wedding. The fact that you get this upset about ppl criticizing you or joking around? Yeah. Lucky guy you are married to. I give it 5 yrs max.

Same thing is happening with me and my long distance boyfriend. He had this journal that'd he'd write in about me, and what he has been doing. All his thoughts, and stuff. He sent that to me. 2 months later... Still haven't seen it. It sucks.

that's not the same thing, there's a huge difference between losing something that's basically a diary and losing a marriage license

If you want something done (delivered) right - do it yr self ... Sad but true
