mishkaroni tells us more.
Thank you for your kind words. People don't understand that we did everything to get it there on time and backed it up with express mail which is overnight delivery to ensure or very important document was received on time. The sad thing is, those employed at the post office just don't care.

Oh. I get it. After the wedding, she mailed the signed marriage license in, but USPS lost it before it got to the government office. Therefore, they'll have to get a new marriage license and sign it on a day that is not the day of the wedding. Technically, they won't have married the day of the wedding. *Explaining it for the slow people like myself.
Thank you for getting it! When we went to pick up the certificate and there was no record of it, the lady told us to go to the post office for tracking. She had told us if they couldn't find it, since it wasn't received within ten days of the ceremony and it had since expired, we would have to re-pay $70 for a new license and $88 for them to marry us, not on our date. However, after the hassel with the USPS, I went to the main recorder's office and they allowed us to purchase the duplicate and have our witnesses and officiant sign it and walk it in this time.
If you think your marriage isn't "valid" without a signed piece of paper (that still exists, just isn't in your custody) then I feel bad for you.
It's not valid through the county if they don't get that "piece of paper" which means I can't change my last name. It is a big deal for that reason alone. In the eyes of our loved ones and ourselves, we married the day we pledged ourselves to each other and exchanged rings. There are a lot of reasons I need that piece of paper - social security office, dmv records, my job...I can't place my husband on the medical insurance I pay out the nose for through my job without proof of marriage. But thanks for being a dick!
I'm so sorry for you OP!! I get it and offer you my sympathies. I hope this gets sorted out somehow and soon! X
I've been there before. A month later they found our paperwork. I hated it.
So sorry OP. I hope your wedding day was at least good
Two things you can do, one have the post office try and find it. THey usually ahve a code to fin dout where it was sent to and have it sent in the right place. If that doens't work then you can always get the prest again, and the friends/families taht signed it, and resign it and just put the date it happened on. It isn't a lost cause jsut inconvinent. Instead of complaining get out there and try to get it fixed.
You realize the point of FML is to complain and vent. But while you sat posting that, I spent hours at the post office trying to track it, which couldn't be done due to the original clerks error. Then I spent hours at the county recorder's office trying to fix my missing marriage license.. Thanks for playing!
I don't understand! Why were you mailing your marriage license? Isn't there a copy at the vital statistics office?
I hate the post office. i would rather use FED-EX. About 4 years ago my fiance and i were going to his roommates wedding and I was in Atlanta and the shoes i was going to wear and handmade jewelry i wanted to wear were in California. My mother mailed them overnight with the USPS and they lost it. When i asked what happened and where it was, they had no idea and told me that first off the zone i was in was not an overnight zone even if paying an overnight fee. When it finally arrived it was the day before we were suppose to be leaving for the wedding as we were with the wedding party and had to get it overnighted yet again and the post office would not mail it for free even after their mistake and barely apologized.
If more research had been done, you would've known if your zone was an overnight zone, also your mail piece ant the only mail piece traveling in the US...you should've bought your stuff locally or had shipped with a different service.
BUMMER!

That's really bad. I feel for you. Post offices aren't reliable like they were at one point I guess.
You should definitely file a complaint I'm sorry that your big day got ruined by a technicality
