Today, I found out that just because you express mail something, it doesn't mean the post office won't still lose it. What did they lose? My signed marriage license. We spent all that time and money to get married on the day of our choosing, and our marriage isn't even valid. FML

Thank you for your kind words. People don't understand that we did everything to get it there on time and backed it up with express mail which is overnight delivery to ensure or very important document was received on time. The sad thing is, those employed at the post office just don't care.

That's really bad. I feel for you. Post offices aren't reliable like they were at one point I guess.

You should definitely file a complaint I'm sorry that your big day got ruined by a technicality

If I were you I would out and get laid while you can!!!!

Wow!! The same thing happen to me a few years ago.

Your marriage is valid the day the license is signed, not the day it arrives anywhere. Once you, your husband, your witnesses, and your officiant sign after the ceremony it's a done deal.

Actually it's not if the paperwork doesn't arrive in a certain window of time. You can have all the ceremonies you want but if you don't turn in signed paperwork within the allowed time frame then you aren't married legally.

That's like saying the number one cause of death is life.

Complain your ass off. That is unacceptable.

This is why our officiant hand walks everything in. In fact when we were looking for officiants (we had two weeks to prepare for our elopement) most officiants stated they would hand walk the paperwork in as this is apparently quite common. Sorry you had this headache though I wonder why no one advised you not to mail it.

I'm the express mail expeditor at the P&DC where I work at the postal service. Express mail is expected to arrive overnight 98% of the time. The 2% are the two day commitment pieces. Granted in the fast pace environment where a crew has to dump hundreds of sacks and elbow each to clear them sometime some get missed. Express mail, once out of the delivery loop, tend to show up routinely in about a week when the empty equipment get cycled back into service. I have found an express that was two years late. These however are the ones that end up in mail equipment storage and can take years before they show up again. In these instances these lost express are exceedingly rare.

That sucks! I'd be there demanding that it be found!
