Seriously, how on earth could you not have realized that before now? Might it be the fact that it is plasticy? Papery? Maybe the fact that it never grew any larger? I'm not trying to insult you, I just cannot understand how you didn't notice. And if you were living with anyone, did you not wonder why no one else was watering it? Well, I'll give you this much: At least you have a green thumb...sort of. At least you tried to keep the plant alive. So, Kudos to you in that sense.

A potted rubber tree would be plasticy, and doesn't grow much. I assume the fake plant was placed in real soil, or in hydroponic clay pellets, which you'd normally water.
