Today, I Googled my father, who I haven't seen in 3 years. The first website link was his obituary. When I confronted my mom about it, she said, "Oh, didn't I tell you?" and walked off. FML

Sorry OP for your loss. No one on here actually knows the situation the Dad could have moved away and plenty of families don't talk after fights but whatever the situation, OP still deserves to know if their father has died.

It's a special notice that is put up after someone has passed away. Can be done online, in a paper or wherever else someone might see it. An example would be: John William Doe, 1 January 1900-10th September 1976 'Beloved father, husband, brother, son and friend. John worked at Awesome Company for many years, before retiring and working on a farm to raise chickens. John will be remembered by this person,that person,such and such, etc. Funeral to be held at The Church, 1200hrs, with a burial at The Cemetery one hour later." Something like that :)
