Today, I got a call from a police department saying that if I didn't move my car from a store's parking lot within the next 15 minutes, they were going to tow it and charge me for the fee. I was at work and the reason I parked it there is because it started smoking and almost caught fire. FML

#15 is right. If the car was having trouble, you should've done something about it immediately, not just leave it in the store's lot. I'm sure there were signs warning you the car would be towed. YDI for thinking they didn't apply to you.

Another YDI here, for leaving the car in a random lot. OP should have contacted a tow company, or at the very least notified the store about the vehicle. I can't understand what is essentially abandoning a car that may catch fire and not telling anyone about it. A simple phone call once arriving at work would've solved this.

Stupid pigs...they don't care about what happens to the general public....I can't tell you how many times I've had that happen....as long as they get $ from writing tickets and meet their quota, they can't be bothered with things like common sense and doing their job. Pms-Queen sounds like you really are pmsing.chill out and like mentioned before, cops don't have quotas.But you're right sometimes cops seem not to care, but I think actual crimes are more important than a car burning when no one is in it.After its done burning Op can claim it to his insurance,......ah that new car smell :)

# 20 cars blowing up is also a myth... They burn but don't 'blow up' petroleum is not explosive it's flammable. And gennerally when people find their car is 'smoking' it is actually steam and therefore there is little chance of it catching alight.
