Today, I got a new roommate. He's from Mongolia. He has had 5 friends over for the last 7 hours, all speaking Mongolian. This is the most awkward party I have ever been to. FML

Foreign exchange parties are awesome! Invite some English speaking people over and everyone can learn from each other little by little. And if no one wants to mingle after that, at least with your friends over it won't be as awkward for you anymore :)

Congratulations! Excellent opportunity to become fluent in a new and exotic language. Imagine how impressive it'll be at parties when you mention that "Oh yeah, I speak Mongolian".

Well, I guess it's time to learn Monogolian then. I'd suggesting asking your roommate to translate for his friends but that would be a lot of work, especially with 5 people. Maybe he'd be willing to teach you some Monogolian in his spare time. It sounds like it would be a good way to bond with your new roommate and who knows, you might become best friends. He might also be willing to translate if he only has one friend over or give you some phrases to use so you can communicate with his friend.
