Today, I got kicked off the train because I refused to stand for an old lady who wanted to sit down. There was an empty seat right next to me. FML

The train had those seats that run parallel with the walls of the train, not the window and aisle seats. And I tell you know that the lady was just one of those people that looks down their nose at most youth. I was in no way disrespectful to her and when I pointed out the seat next to me and she went and told the security guards that I refused to stand up for her. It's messed up, man. OP

That's right, fight for your damn chair. We can't let the elderly win at everything.

Maybe she was obsessive-compulsive and needed that EXACT seat. I saw this lady do that to me and a number of other passengers many times, with plenty of empty seats.

I'm wondering if the old lady was also fat and wanted both seats, OR the seat that was empty was the one to the window and she couldn't get to it. I can't understand why you'd get kicked off for a seat being available right next to you :S FYL/YDI I don't know

I think there's something missing from this story. It might not be the case in Australia, but a lot of trains in NY/NJ have seats specifically reserved for the elderly or handicapped that are closest to the entrance/exit. Often there are signs indicating that you are expected to give up your seat in such situations if you don't fall in 1 of those 2 categories.

She's an OLD WOMAN! Your parents should have raised you with more respect for women and the elderly. Didn't cross your mind that you should be the one to move to the empty seat?

are you kidding? did it ever cross your mind that it's the old woman in fault, since there was a perfectly empty seat right next to the OP? why should OP have to move?

Give her the seat and take the empty one

I'm sure there's more to this story, since it isn't clear if the woman was just elderly, how disabled she is, if she would have to climb over her to get to the open seat, etc. The bottom line is JUST MOVE. Was it really worth it getting kicked off the train just to defend your right to the seat?

Doc, what if it was an aisle seat? Then again, theres more the fml doesnt say.

yeah, Rosa parks shoulda done the same (sarcasm intended)

I live in victoria aswel, I have also met the type of people metro hires as their train goons, most of them are dicks, also I high number of crazy old people, I had a knee reconstruction and was on crutches, no one got up, had to ask some kid to stand for me but I wouldn't have them kicked off if they diddnt move

U should have given ur seat to the old lady, n MOVED UR ASS to the other seat!!! Asshole.

So what the **** is wrong with ure legs so u can't move one seat over? ****** dick.

Who says the OP is the dick? Maybe the open seat was an aisle seat and OP thought it was easier for the woman to sit there and didn't feel it was necessary to move? It is a lot easier for an elderly person to get out of an aisle seat rather than crawling all over OP to get out when she gets to her stop. This lady sounds like she doesn't make any sense, so I don't blame OP for using their brain and signalling for the woman to sit in the other seat.
