It sounds like you let him get away with a lot. Try punishing him, so he knows what he's doing is not allowed.
71, would you suggest they DON'T discipline, just in case it's too much? Kids who rebel don't always do it because they were disciplined "too much. Sometimes it has to do with the fact that they were never disciplined at all, and when the parents finally try to do it, there's no point in respecting it. By the way, washing his mouth out with soap is an acceptable form of discipline without doing it "too much." Even parents who are against spankings can agree on that type of punishment.

I'm only 15 and even I can say this... Maybe he wouldn't do that if there was some discipline involved when he does that kind of stuff... And how did your 4 year old son learn all of the words to cuss you out? Hmm? Bad parenting much? I think so! FYL but YDI too...
