Today, I got stuck in an elevator. After ringing the alarm bell consistantly for 10 minutes, I called someone I was staying with. She went down to the front desk and said that there were people stuck in the elevator. Front desk- "Is that what that is? I thought it was some kids messing around." FML

To clear this up: it was mainly because the people in the hotel were not helpful at all and this was just one of the last straws. The FML part was the guy at the front desk of the hotel in New Orleans was like the most unhelpful person ever. And it's also kind of akward if you don't exactly get along with the person you're stuck with. And no, I am not usually claustrophobic, but in extreme cases, like such, it is rather disconcerting. As for the cell phone service in the elevator, we were only about 4 inches up from the ground floor. And if FML let me post a longer story, it would have been entirely different. If the girl I called had posted, it would have been mainly about the fact that the hilarity of this whole situation caused here to piss herself. Especially with the fact that our adult leader used force to open the elevator doors...

*Facepalm* WHY do these people get hired at all? It doesn't matter how many times a kid may 'cry wolf' in the elevator...you NEVER ignore the alarm!

They seriously should lose their job. That's a life or death situation, it doesnt matter if it was a prank. You could have died. (allergic reaction, seizure, etc.) I'd personally **** their lives so hard they couldn't walk for a week.

ugh. It's not the fact that she was stuck in the elevator for 10 minutes, otherwise she would have put "Today, I was stuck in an elevator for 10 minutes. FML." The FML is the fact that pressing the emergency button for 10 minutes wouldn't yield any help from the front desk. Sometimes, for some people, being in and elevator for even ten minutes can be terrifying, especially if they are claustrophobic. Finding out afterward that the button you had been pressing gave the front desk no idea that somebody had been trapped may lead to one saying various obscenities, including "F My Life." OP: FYL

I hope that girl got fired for not even getting up to check...

I have to say on behalf of front desk workers everywhere (myself being one of them) that there are a lot of people, especially when it gets into the wee hours, who find stuff like that funny. Pressing the elevator emergency button, setting off fire alarms, chucking goggles at the security camera in the pool area, pouring themselves a cup of coffee and then dumping it purposely are all a lot of very common and very dick hole moves. While I'm sorry it happened to you, I can't say I necessarily blame FD for their slow reaction.

Personally I like those elevators that have the person in it that presses all the buttons for you. And they get fancy uniforms :D On the other hand, obviously yours didnt have it. FYL if you were claustrophobic slightly / whatever YLIA if you were just panicking for no reason :p also next time use the phone to call the front desk to verify they are doing something if you can.

Oops, I didn't mean to click "you totally deserved it." I liked how it said 666 before I clicked it.

10min.? Really? Dont b a damn crybaby

I agree. I was locked in a crowded (as in crowded with many boxes) basement for 20 minutes. Not bragging about it, it was just about the most terrifying experience in my life. But, moreover, you deserve it for using a name like elevatorFAIL. Really, you do.

uh, maybe because people normally only press it once and wait for help instead of jamming on it for that long. YDI
