Probably because they want to have enough energy for the class? It's no good if you show up tired and can't do the work with the trainer, especially if the class is many floors up. Now, if this is a third floor class, unless legs/knees or lungs are a specific issue, I'd probably say you could manage, but if you're heading up five or seven floors, I wouldn't even think of using the stairs unless I was in great shape.
I think God is telling you to take the stairs...either way we all could always use the exercise...one way or another..,

lol if I were attending a weight & fitness class I'd likely take the stairs, regardless sorry about that op, chin up ^_^
Anyone with half a brain, and 'trying' to stay in shape would take the stairs.
