teacher teacher?
I hate surprise tests. In my opinion they are not fair and puts unnecessary pressure.
I had a Stats teacher that was like that. He'd write 4 days' schedule on the board, changed it when the 4 days were up. That's as far ahead as we ever knew, & tests were usually the first or second day of the list (meaning we often had a test with zero warning). He never really complained about people's obvious cheating though, he even let us talk sometimes.
Sorry for the ignorance, what's a Stats class? Statistics? I did Google it, but found multiple possible answers.
yes 29 this most likely refers to a statistics class.
And this is why I prefer teachers to give a syllabus that defines everything that will happen in a class term on a day by day basis. No surprise quizzes.
Unfortunately, life itself has pop quizzes all the time.
Yes it does. Which makes it even more of a dick move for teachers to pull the 'pop quiz' shit, since they have no way of knowing if any of their students have recently been given one by life. Considering I get frequent ones in the form of chronic medical issues, I may be a little biased.
talk to the principal. that shouldn't be tolerated
I have never studied never will and I have A's, and B's
And I bet you never had to take a test in Chinese. Or any language that doesn't use a Romanic alphabet.
What is a matter with you all? No it's not the teachers fault, no you shouldn't go complain to the principal, the teacher did nothing wrong. It is 100% your fault! You should be ready to pass the test with out a forewarning. It isn't fair? Life never is. Life doesn't give you a heads up when tests come. It's time to grow up.
I agree with you. Although the OP was given just a day to study for the test, he/she should have already been comfortable with the subject or prepared for the test.
In the ideal situation, you would be able to pass anyway. But Chinese isn't easy, not only is it a different language but it has a completely different alphabet. You also have people who do not learn as quickly or as easily. You typically have OTHER classes that you should also be able to understand where you are, so if you are behind in them as well you are going to have hell trying to study them all. Then you also have teachers who don't really teach too well. My Chinese teacher was very sweet and I loved her, but she went too fast for any of us to grasp it. I enjoyed learning the culture that she taught us(she was actually from China) but I wasn't really able to keep up with the language. Point is, it'd be nice if it were that simple but there are different situations and it might not be as easy as "you don't study regularly enough".
Oh my god. This is exactly what my Chinese teacher does too. She waits until the day before tests to let us know that we have them. It is horribly unfair, leaves us no time to study. Dx
Now you know the teacher's style so you should study some every day to make sure you fully understand the material.

Pretty big assumption from your teacher to say nobody would study. There are people who never study, but everyone should be given a chance to succeed and try his/her best.
Surprise test = surprise fail. Maybe that's what you should have written on your test. In Chinese.
