Today, I had a planned 12-hour power cut for maintenance work, which I'd forgot all about. In need of a shower before work, I spent 45 minutes boiling pots of water on the stove to take a lukewarm, 6-inch deep bath, before realizing my water heater runs on natural gas and was working fine. FML

Always check first. Also, wouldn't it be more efficient to boil one or two pots of water and use a simple washcloth?

Thank god for running water and water heaters, imagine having to boil your own bath water every single day.

Well, a lesson learned to think before you act :)

I have no idea what this FML is about because I had to stop reading after "an 12 hour"

Dooley, that's not even what it says.. It says "a planned 12-hour".. Nowhere does it say "an 12 hour"..

I posted that comment before the FML was edited. It originally said an 12 hour planned power cut.

27 - It says "an 12 hour planned power cut." Was it so hard to double-check?

If you're boiling water on your stove, doesn't that mean your power is still on?

Or he could just nut up and have a cold shower.

Technically he could have acted (by checking the water temperature) before he thought (before assuming it wouldn't work). So act before you think?

that sounds like something I would do fyl i'm sorry

I think it sounds like something an idiot would do.

You're the reason i'm losing faith in humanity.

So you're losing faith in humanity because he forgot he had a water heater? Things like this happen to the best of us, and I'm pretty sure it includes you as well.

Amen. Simple commen sense people.

I know our water heater is natural gas but it won't start up because it requires electricity for the spark. But there is a 40 GAL tank with hot water in it.

I honestly have no clue what to say about ur stupidity...

That's not very fair coming from a person who put "ur" instead of "your"...

Here's an idea - if you don't know what to say, DON'T ******* SAY ANYTHING.

Yes. Because god gave us water heaters and running water. Thumb down.

And the Ultradouche award goes to... 13!

Sorry. Just tired of people thanking god for man made inanimate objects. God is just some made up thing by the churches to make people go and give them money. Been happening for thousands of years. Sorry to break it to you but when you die your not going to heaven to sit on your own private cloud sipping tea with all your dead relatives. You'll be put in hole in the ground where maggots and worms will eat you and that's all that will happen. Commence downward thumbs.

55- You're a ******* dumbass, he's not thanking god. It's a damn expression.

55-First of all, yes, it is just an expression. So you have never said thank god about anything? I find that hard to believe. Also, I don't understand where all of that came from. If you believe that god and heaven don't exist, you're certainly entitled to think that. But don't try to ruin it for all the people that believe they do exist.

Oh I get now. Kinda like your profile that says suck my dick. Coming from a girl. Just as stupid as thanking god for water heaters.

TheSnakeDoctor20 17

67- You still missed the point dumbass. Go back to your home under your ******* rock.

Support command, how about taking that tractor and shoving it where the sun don't shine. Thank god for inbreds, without you the world wouldn't have a place for real humans to shit on.

I wonder how many people would actually make the effort... O.O *shudder*

Well, you wouldn't need to actually boil it. Just heat it up, unless you like lukewarm water for your bathing. Heck, I've taken plenty of camp showers with unheated water. Unless it's frigid water, it's nothing to get upset about.

Had to do that for about 2 weeks while waiting for a part on my housmate's water heater. It sucked terribly.

Check the rest of your appliances to make sure they don't run on jet fuel.

I mean, I can see why that would not occur to you, but ydi for not asking someone. I mean, that's be one of my first questions. Then also ydi for not showering right before they cut the power off and then picking up a thing of dry shampoo to use in the morning. It's only like $3 at drugstores.

20 - Power can get cut by the city, landlord, power company etc. etc... OP had many options of people he could of asked prior to assuming he'd be affected.
