Today, I had eight teeth removed in preparation for getting my braces fitted. My winter break will now consists of barely being able to sleep or eat, tasting blood, and looking like a goofy-ass chipmunk. FML

Today, I found out that instead of having four wisdom teeth, I have eight. They all have to be removed as soon as possible, which happens to be over the Christmas break. I get to spend my whole vacation in excruciating pain and a swollen face to boot. FML

Today, I just got back from school with my mouth feeling like a bomb site, and also very hungry. I just got my braces installed yesterday, and I have to wear them for 18 months. I can barely eat anything solid, which means I will be hungry more often. It's going to be an awesome 18 months trying to focus on school! FML

Brace yourself

Today, my orthodontist thought it would be a good idea to put braces on the teeth in the very back. One bracket popped off twice, after which he shoved a metal band in my mouth onto one of my teeth, cutting my gums, and causing gushing blood. Now, I can’t eat anything unless it’s baby food and I have a lisp. FML

Today, I went to see my orthodontist. He informed me that I have an underbite and I will probably need braces again. I just had them taken off last year, after five and a half years of oral hell. FML

Today, I lost a tooth and got my jaw wired shut after my toddler managed to break my jaw by whacking me with a plastic toy. Hello at least 8 weeks of being unable to talk while only eating meals that have been thoroughly blitzed into a liquid form first. FML

Today, I was eating ice cream and struggling to chew a particularly hard chunk of chocolate. After finally breaking it into pieces, I spat it out because it tasted terrible. Then I discovered that I was missing my temporary crown. Now I have no upper molar. FML

Today, the dentist told me I needed to have two of my wisdom teeth on opposite ends of my mouth pulled. I suppose a liquid diet won't be all that bad. FML

Look on the bright side OP, isn't it better to go through this over a break versus school? At least you don't have that to worry about that at the same time.

The comments that try to paint dentists as being greedy for money is not true for most dentists. We don't know what the treatment plan was for OP. Having 8 teeth removed prior to treatment is very possible as well as having no teeth removed. It all depends on how the patient presents with the type of malocclusion. There are even cases that a patient will have jaw surgery to correct a skeletal problem prior to having the teeth straightened. Please try not to judge the dentist if you don't know anything about this particular person having orthodontic treatment.

This is most likely not true. Most dentists and orthodontists will only remove up to three in a day due to the novacain side effects.

I know how you feel OP, I had to get 4 teeth removed to get my braces. I got mine removed a week before my braces, this all happened a week before my summer vacation so while on vacation I couldn't eat that much and didn't feel like go out anywhere.

To the person who said Notice how she said Winter Break. In New Zealand and Australia Winter is in the months of June, July, and August. Also I know the feeling! It sucks.
