Thank you #32! I used to get sick a lot in the morning as a kid and then be fine right afterwards and still make it to school (I'm male, but the point is there is literally sickness in the morning). You'd be surprised how some very commonly understood words/phrases can be misunderstood by so many. She may not be foreign, she just may have never learned that phrase, it's entirely possible I wouldn't call her an idiot because she didn't know.
Sorry about how long winded this is, don't read if you don't like reading. This summer I was speeding into work, the zone around the mall I work in has a 25 mph speed limit which people will frequently go 40 -45 through, I was going 45-50 (which, yes, I realize was a negative decision, and if you continue reading you will realize I have already been punished to the full extent of the law so, please, and thank you, everyone itching to lecture me, spare it) and didn't even see the cop before they pulled me over. When I explained I was late for my job the officer initially told me to call my work and tell them I'd be "in, in a minute" which I promptly did explaining I was out front I had been pulled over and would be right in. W hen the cop came back he told me to get out of my car, cuffed and (made a bigger scene by having a female officer come in who) frisked me and threw my car upside down trying to find something else to check off his quota and then explained, showing me the little book I assume he had just looked it up in, that in a business zone what I had just done was criminal speeding and I would be going behind bars for the next six hours, which mall security would explain to the job which I was already most likely fired from. When I had my phone call, I called the one person who's phone number I could remember that I thought I could trust to help me out, my mom. I briefly explained my arrest and that I would be out at a certain time and asked if she could pick me up, to which she said of course. When I got out she was there, and she explained to me happily that she had called my job and let them know that I had gotten "food poisoning", to the job that aside from already knowing what had happened, knows I'm 20 years old, and haven't lived with my parents at all in the year I worked there. Insanely embarrassing. But in the end when I had her drop me off at the job I was still in uniform for, and I came in and was not even fired, my manager said they knew what happened, understood why my mom would make up the stupid lie and I wouldn't be punished for trying to get to work on time and they even let me finish the last six hours of my twelve hour shift. (And if anyone was wondering the only consequence I further served was a single defensive driving course and the charges were dropped).
OR: Today, I was pulled over for speeding because I was late for my job. The cop said I could go in a few minutes. The next thing I know, I was cuffed, searched and jailed for six hours. FML. You're welcome.
#40: That's hillarious :D .
Our moms are so wonderful.... (I don't speak English very well I'm Swiss)
