Today, I had my first driving test. The instructor turned out to be the kind of twit who made me do the full 60-minute test, only to tell me afterwards that he was failing me for the only mistake I made less than 2 minutes after the test started. Time wasting tit. FML

Actually, I've had this happen too, while doing my test. I believe they're meant to make you do the whole test for the sake of experience with the different sections, like independent driving, so you're more prepared next time.

Driving instructors can be the worst kind of people. I failed my first driving test because as I was changing lanes the driver in front of me slammed on their breaks after missing their exit ... the instructor said I "made an unsafe lane change" and immediately failed me. Smh. I asked her what I should have done differently and her answer was to hand me the grading sheet and abruptly leave.

The driving test instructors around here are all police who are stationed there as a sort of punishment duty. They're in an awful mood before they even meet you.

I grew up on a farm, and owned/knew how to drive my pickup truck since I was 14yo. I too "failed" my driver test at 16yo because the evaluator didn't like that I had to manually cancel the turn signals. Apparently doing so is "too distracting to be safe". I have to do the same thing on my motorcycles and my tractor, and everyone has to do it in their car when they change lanes and push the lever a bit too far. Just take the test again with a different person and you'll be fine.

Why would you *not* have to take the whole test? You need to know what you need to improve at--if there was something else you were unable to do later in the test you would need to be told that so you could work on it.

This is how every driving test goes I'm afraid. They're not allowed to tell you how you're doing until the end. Better luck next time though OP! The best drivers pass second time ;)

That is how the testing process works in the U.K. They are not allowed to tell you you failed until the entire test has concluded as you may fail in more than one area. It is how most tests work in life so you may want to get used to it now.

It is his job: to take the entire test and give you feedback on your performance. You are meant to pass it with flying colors, not to try over and over until you might accidentally pass it.

What one mistake made you fail? Must have been pretty bad.
