Knitting is only a waste of time if you do it for the money. The sheer amount of time it takes to complete a handknit garment leaves you with far less than minimum wage if you try to sell your product at a price that can compete with something made by machines. "Knitting is like sex. If I like you and you appreciate it, it's free. If not, you couldn't pay me enough." (I don't know who said that, but it's a quote that's stuck with me) Furthermore, you can't just say something offensive to a group of people, tack on "no offense" at the end and think that makes it okay.

Wrong. You are literally CREATING something when you knit. I get extremely creative with my crochet, modifying or writing my own patterns, and mixing motifs, textures, colors, textiles... the possibilities are endless. Plus, as long as you aren't making reindeer sweaters, you can make some kick-ass gifts relatively cheaply. I crochet beaded jewelry, and people always ask the wearer where they can buy them :D

knitting can be fun.. find a friend & use the knitting needles as swords :D sounds like tons of fun to me
