He is supporting her to get a higher education. Just every other girl needs to be barefoot and pregnant.
I'm currently a freshman in college and if my dad said this, I would go ape shit on his ass. There would be no holding back for me.
My inner feminist is about to go on a protest
I think your father needs to make up his mind about where he stands .
I think the problem we have in society nowadays is not women going to university, but morons going. The amount of pointless and almost totally useless subjects any old idiot can get a degree in nowadays is ridiculous, and the people that take them are the people who are definitely not going to be earning enough to pay back their student loan.
This was my post yesterday and I just wanted to reply to give a bit of context - I am doing a med degree, not just bludging off the Australian education system to avoid working or be a professional student. Definitely not a moron at all, I worked ridiculously hard to get into and stay in the degree I am doing, and a lot of young women like me can say the same for themselves. I'm glad this fml is getting the exposure I feel like it deserves - it addresses a few issues.
#22 so if you wrote this post, why isn't your post blue
#22, you aren't fooling anyone pretending to be the OP. If you were really the OP, your post would be blue and it would say that you were.
Doesn't matter what people study, as long as they pursue what they want to do appropriately. Who are you to say one major is stupid it because you find no interest in it? Simply because it doesn't pay a lot?
Many people get degrees in fields that have no open jobs simply becsuse it.is interesting.
Some pursuits especially for a career are oddly specific and a hard to make a living off of and expecting to be successful despite the reality of the situation could be a rude wake up call. Lots of people take acting, but few ever make it to a level to really support themselves and a lot of that is connections and maybe some luck.
I created an account because I didn't want people to be saying things like "she's probably just doing an arts degree" or just slamming any uni degree or trying to make it sound like I'm just bludging and taking from the education system with no plans to give back. If you don't believe me, fine, but I wanted to personally give context to people commenting on it since there was no way to write it all in the limited amount of characters.
And just to clarify, the post was originally made from my phone before I ever had an account because I didn't expect it to make the main page in the first place.
I don't know how it works in USA but in the UK you get a student loan to do a degree funded by the taxpayer and you only have to pay it off after you start earning a certain amount. Certain degrees, not mentioning any names, are almost useless for finding a decently paid jobs, hence the student is unlikely to reach that wage level and will never pay back their loan. If you want to do a degree in what you love fine, but there are too many people in the UK doing that and getting their entire £27k course funded by the taxpayer only to work a minimum wage job that anyone could do. If you want to do a degree in a hobby rather than something that will help society then good for you, but I don't want to pay for it. See my problem now?

As if being a stay-at-home mom is something wrong. At least you can prove him how wrong he is.
