Today, I had to endure my father going on a sexist rant about how women shouldn't be allowed to go to university because it's "unrealistic" since "all women" become stay-at-home mums. This is the same man who threatened to kick me out if I dropped out of uni. FML

"All" women become stay at home mums? What bass-ackwards world does he live in?

As if being a stay-at-home mom is something wrong. At least you can prove him how wrong he is.

Not sure, maybe I'm putting a spin on what your dad said but I think he wants you to get an education. He is afraid though that a lot of mom's get pregnant young while in school and leave because of that and as a result feels like it is pointless.

12, I read your comments in every single post on fml :)

Everyone saying he needs to remember what era he lives in, consider this: we don't know how old op's dad is. For all we know, he was raised to believe that all women do become stay at home moms, because pretty much all women did. It's not so simple for everyone to just throw out what they were raised their whole lives to believe, or what was the norm in their time, and simply accept the way things are now. Now, I'm not saying he's right, I'm only saying look at it from where he could be coming from, rather than where we are now. Things could have been very different for him.

Just so you know, not "pretty much all women" turned into stay at home moms- even in the 50s. Only women in social economic classes that allowed them to stay at home did, while the majority did work outside of the home.

I doubt it. The second wave of feminism was in the 1960s. He was probably either born or at least raised around that time (if he wasn't then he is pretty old) and because of the second wave, perceptions around what women could do were being challenged and changed. By the early 80s there were just as many woman in university as there were men. It might be a product of his family but not of his time.

Point his bs out to him then, OP. "Well, if that's the case, why don't you find me a husband, so all the money going to uni isn't wasted any further, dad."

You have to prove him wrong... and please don't have him as a reason for your failures...

You do what you want with your life whether its become a stay at home mom, juggle children and a career, or a career and not have any kids. Its none of his business and he has no say in the matter.

Let me guess: OP's dad is lazy and unemployed, or works in a typical office.

He might be having a bad time due to other issues.
