Today, I had to explain to my father why it isn't a good idea to shove a metal knife into the toaster when trying to get at a small piece of toast. This man is 45-years-old and has a PhD. FML

Hey there, OP here! For those of you asking, he has a PhD in biology. He's done crazier and much more dangerous things than this, trust me. If you guys have any other questions, feel free to ask!

He would have had an electrifying epiphany if all had gone as planned. You ruined it!

High intelligence, low wisdom.

His version of the game of "Operation"?

he knows its a bad idea, but sometimes its a lot easier than tipping the toaster upside down

He's trying to prove the theory that"you are what you eat" by becoming toast.

Common sense is not so common after all!

there is a difference between being smart (phd) and having common sense. common sense usually wins.

if the toaster is not toasting there is No power on the element. meaning it can not shock him. sounds like OP might have been arguing a mute point

actually the original term was mute point which makes more sense and was originally used in court but got changed to moot point just saying

not sure where you got that but, respectfully, you are incorrect. "Moot" is a very old word meaning assembly, meeting, debate, parley, etc. No relation to the word mute.
