Today, I had to explain to my father why it isn't a good idea to shove a metal knife into the toaster when trying to get at a small piece of toast. This man is 45-years-old and has a PhD. FML

Hey there, OP here! For those of you asking, he has a PhD in biology. He's done crazier and much more dangerous things than this, trust me. If you guys have any other questions, feel free to ask!

He would have had an electrifying epiphany if all had gone as planned. You ruined it!

Well, we all know a PhD is just a piece of paper. Doesn't really mean anything

A piece of paper you work your ass off to get.

My Mum has done the exact same thing twice in as many weeks. The first time I literally had to leap across the kitchen to turn the toaster off at the wall.

It's bad that I didn't know what would happen if he did that until I read the comments... I am slow

My husband, who has an IQ of 170, still has to be reminded of things, as I have learnt, high IQ and other so called qualifications means diddly squat when it comes to common sense. After all of this I bet you had a good laugh :)

I guess he has PhD in something like history or linguistics?

Book Smarts Tech Smarts. Know the difference.

Sometimes the smartest people have zero common sense.

So long as the plug is out of the wall, what's the problem?
