Today, I hit a patch of black ice and totaled my car. The car is a month old. For the next 5 years I'll be paying for a car I can't drive. FML

Yeah, insurance should cover it, they should give you money for another car in the amount of what your car was worth before the accident. And if you don't have insurance, YDI.

Agreed. I'm surprised the finance company (bank) allowed possession of the car without full-coverage insurance. THEY (the bank) want to protect themselves... from idiots such as this.

Even with full coverage, you are upside down on your loan on a new vehicle. the second you drive off the lot your car is now considered used and you have no equity in the car. having an addition insurance called GAP insurance covers the gap between what your car is worth vs the balance on your loan.

well if op bought the car a month ago it has to have insurance cuz the dealer don't let u buy a car without any insurance. op is just stupid if it don't no this shit

Wrong. The bank won't loan you the money without insurance on the vehicle. The dealer doesn't care. He already has his money.

Not having insurance on a new car is just plain stupid, for this exact reason. YDI. And if you're going that fast to total the car, slow the hell down when the temps are low enough to form black ice.
