You deserved it because this is about the male equivalent of asking "Does this dress/pants make me look fat?" No matter what the answer the person asking isn't going to be satisfied, so it's not even a fair thing to ask and is always going to cause problems. Get past your dam ego and don't worry about stupid crap like that. If your significant other doesn't have a problem with it you don't need to either.
