That's just a rite of passage. Beside, if your parents are paying for your gas, car, insurance, etc then it's kind of their call. When I got my lisence I drove my parents to events all the time (I know op said permit). But in doing so I got the car for the night. Completely fair trade-off.
That's half the reason parents have kids get use to it till you move out

Ha! That's what happened to my oldest brother. My second oldest brother, however, was smart enough to not get his permit til he moved out ;D
the same thing happened to me when I got my permit.. also whoever said video tape them promising something.. ya, my parents would just be like "who gives a s#*t" lmao.. theres no deals in my family.. we do what we are told or we are hit/grounded.. as Rick from The Walking Dead would say "This is not a democracy anymore" :P
