Becckzfizz tells us more.
Hello, I wrote this, Yes I'm in England. I'd text my mum to let her know that I was on my way home, she'd replied and all was well. Next thing I know she's ringing me again thinking that I've done a runner from the hospital. The doctor had discharged me and signed all of my forms, though the nurses on duty had not been notified of this and immediately called the police to report me as a missing person (even though I was waiting for my taxi in the hospital entrance), the police then contacted my emergency contact (my mum) and then she called me. I understand that it wasn't the Doctors fault, it was just a clerical error. All clear?

You should check if your kidney is there. He might have "forgot" to put it back
your doctor is a busy person. you should've called your mom and told her you were discharged.
The first thing I would have done when I left was let my mom and dad know I was out... FYL though
Maybe they had no money in their phone or wanted to wait until they were safely back home first.
Thd doctor, read the FML dude!!
So, like, you don't have to sign anything or get a prescription or anything to leave a hospital? I can't imagine just walking out without stopping at the nurses station to check with them to make sure I was all set to go.
When I went the ER all they did was give me a bunch shots with hardly as many words. Then they gave me a packet of paper explaining what was wrong with me and told me to leave. When I passed the nurses station, they were all too busy flirting to even tell me where to go, so I just left. Even with that confusion and severe lack of communication, I still called my mom! Worried moms can be a handful. At least OP's mom had her heart in the right place. :)
OP, stayed for a 3-nights stay. Unless, he stayed in the ER that whole time, I can't imagine an admitted inpatient would just be discharged without the nurse first seeing him. Usually, [at least at the hospital where I work] inpatients still have at least 1 INT to be d/c'ed, are taught by the nurses discharge instructions, then have a bunch of forms to sign out declaring understanding, and then are released as long as they have someone to drive them home. Nurses usually have to document all that to cover their own. Too frequently, doctors tell my patients they can go home, but I always settle them down and tell them they have to wait on me to finish the paperwork then I require them to be chauffeured out by either a tech or myself. Maybe other cities, countries, hospitals operate differently, but this FML just seems too absurd and inflated . I feel like we are missing a lot of pieces to this story.
On the other hand, I'd be very surprised if OP didn't have a cellphone to call with. Don't see why this is the doctor's responsibility at all.
I think what happened is he was discharged at the hospital and the doctor didnt tell the nurses so they called in a missing person report . But it's not the doctors responsibility to call the mother unless he was under age.
People overreact too easily these days
there is no way it went down like this. after that many days in a hospital, you cant just get dressed an leave. one of the(2 or 3) nurses, 4-6 LVN's, and numerous RNA's at the nurses station would have started with "why are u dressed? who said you could leave? we dont have any discharge orders, get back in bed please" and if you came back with something like, "but....but.. the Dr said"...... they would have already been walking your ass back into your bed.
Last time i was in hospital for a week it was encouraged for those of us who could to get dressed during the day. Coming and going was also allowed to go to the cafe etc areas of the hospital. However OP states discharged.
