Today, I'm so broke, I asked my parents if they'd pay for me to go to the eye doctor and consider it my Christmas present. FML

Nothing like the gift of sight. Remember that there are always people worst off then you are. Hang in there OP.

Perfect vision would make a great gift! I hope they agreed.

Well you do have a computer, and probably shelter and food and clean water... Most of the world doesn't even have those three basic things. Regardless, it still stinks for you. Maybe try getting a higher paying job, cut down on expenses, etc. Good luck OP, I wish you the best.

... i asked my parents something similar regarding my bday, OP, so don't feel bad... it's what you have to do sometimes....

We've all had to do that at some stage. Rent money, car tune-up, etc.

Hey, my mom asked me what I wanted as compensation for running a few errands for her and I said "a tank of gas." best present ever.

Don't feel so bad we've all been in that exact same place. It sucks at the time but it will pass by. I'm currently in the same situation but just owe my parents money. Lol there's always craigslist the pawn shop or doing things your neighbors need done like yard work for money to get by. It's embarrassing but it really helps and they will understand.

Actually - we've not all been there. Only in places like the US can a person not afford basic healthcare.

Or maybe it's not that most people can't afford. Maybe it's that most people place higher value on other things...material things. I see it everyday. Priorities are screwed here. Also, if op would've been smart, and saving a few dollars each paycheck since his last visit, he could afford the next one.

That's nothing. I'm so broke I asked a homeless bum for money.

That doesn't show how broke you are, it shows how stupid you are.

Did your parents see that things aren't looking up for you? You must look pretty silly when you reach up to lower your sunglasses and you don't *lowers sunglasses* have any.

I've asked my parents if they could pay my car insurance and consider it my birthday present.

I don't really understand what's to complain about. Bad times happen and people do what they can to get through. I don't see how having someone else pay for your vision as a gift is a FML. It's not like X-Mas gifts are that important. Now, being out of date on your prescription so you can't order without a visit, out of all contacts and no glasses, having very poor vision, and no one to help you with money? THAT is a FML.
