Today, I moved in with my new roommate. She's a vegetarian, and won't let me put my meat in the fridge because it will "contaminate her food". FML

Half rent half fridge, besides there is more than 1 shelf in the fridge

I don't really see what the issue here is... I don't think it's that it will "contaminate" her food so much as she doesn't want the animal fat etc. getting into her food. You should just take the bottom shelves and she can have the top one.

Can you explain to me how animal fat would get into her food if both items are properly sealed - as everything in a refrigerator should be anyway?

Do you know what the word contaminate means?

Because when you are handling meat, even packaging it, the bacteria is all over your hands. Therefore it goes on the outside of your package meat. Even at the grocery store, the butcher or handler has been touching meat all day. Then it goes into the fridge, sits on the shelf, and then the vegetarian puts her food on the same shelf.

Find a new roommate! This ones a whack job.

That's silly. I don't eat meat, dairy, eggs, or any other animal products but i dont have a fit over people putting other things in the fridge. She's being a bit ridiculous.

Either eat out Or ur own meat fridge :)

if you pay rent then you have a right to put whatever you like in the fridge. Your meat NEEDS to be in the fridge to keep it fresh and safe to eat. Most veegtables do not require such treatment and last perfectly well at room temperature when kept away from obvious heat sources. So she doesn't actually need the fridge for fruit and vegetable storage. Tell her this. Also, compromise by putting your meat products in tupperware containers on a separate shelf purely designated for your food . That way no fluids can run off and touch anything in the fridge belonging to her. No normal human being should be able to refuse or disallow such a sensible compromise ( well i say that... she IS a vegetarian which is unnatural in itself )

You're right, Fishfanatic. In fact, many vegetables and fruits that grow in warm climates aren't adapted to the cold and will get mushy in the fridge: bananas, cucumbers, zucchini's, bell peppers, melons, etc. And the fridge isn't the best place for tomatoes and root vegetables either. Now your username gives me an idea for a compromise. Merrymarry could say: "OK, I won't put meat in the fridge but only fish." Fresh fish, in open containers.

Being a vegetarian isn't unnatural. Though OP's roommate was being dumb for getting angry about that. I'd understand if OP was shoving unwrapped, dripping meat on the top shelf, but as long as it's packaged it's fine. OP's roommate and OP should've considered this before choosing to live together anyway.

You should fool her into eating a burger by telling her it's a veggie burger lmao

Gah damn veggie burgers aren't even vegan friendly, almost all have eggs or milk, same with bread. She probably doesn't eat them.

She's a vegetarian dimbass not a vegan there's a diffrents.. Google it!..

I don't eat milk or eggs but I still eat honey and yeast, so I'm not a vegan. Someone that damn militant probably doesn't eat eggs.

They taste and smell nothing alike. I've found some vegan veggie burgers. They're yummy.

Tell her your a carnavour and if you can't store your meat int the fridge to keep it safe you may have to resort to cannibalism.
