Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in public. She happily said yes, and the surrounding crowd cheered for us. About 10 minutes later, after the excitement died down, she leaned over and quietly said, "Actually, I don't want to marry you. I only said yes so I wouldn't disappoint the crowd." FML

I feel for you OP, but at least she had the courtesy to not humiliate you in front of dozens of people.

Seems like she's busy pleasing everyone else but you, that's brutal man.

Wow. What a bitch! FYL indeed OP At least she was honest, breaking off an engagement is easier than filing for divorce

Maybe you both jus need to talk, I think it was nice of her to tell you know in private but it probably should have been a no + a conversation, at home, as to why she said no

That's why you never propose publicly unless you know for sure the answer is yes. At least she didn't shoot you down in front of everyone.

Proposing like that in front of a crowd puts a lot of pressure on her. If she refuses she looks mean. I don't agree with the,"Dump her!" crowd though. She handled it well and saved you both from embarrassment. Class act.

That warrants an on-the-spot dumping!

I'm frankly a little shocked at all the people saying "That's what you get for proposing in public". I proposed to Mrs. Bastard in public. The difference between me and OP is that I was absolutely positive she would say yes (and mean it). If you're going to do it in public, you'd better be damned sure she wants you to.

I think they mean ''that's what you get for doing the classic surprise proposal in public''. Because that's a huge ass surprise with a number of unpleasant outcomes

I went to a Papa Roach concert last week and there was a fan that got up on stage and proposed to his girlfriend in front of us all. I couldn't imagine her saying "no" in public and not get a lynch mob's fiery. But she said "yes" got everybody's cheers and Jacoby Shaddix gave the couple permission to DO IT in his tour bus! :P

Atleast you were not humiliated in public

"Well I don't want to date you either, I just didn't want to disappoint your friends who thought you were a loser.". That's what you should have said. What a bitch.

It's not something to do in public, it's quite intimate
