Always resign from a job in person, with a letter of resignation, or at the very least, with an email. It is not only more professional, but you have proof as to when you handed your notice in and when your last day is.

Honestly having been in a position of having someone quit on me, there's not much else you can do. It's an annoying process to have to replace someone so "k" is about the only response to have. lol.
