Today, I ran over a squirrel. I saw it twitching, so I backed over it to end its suffering. It wasn't a squirrel; it was a kitten. The children it belonged to watched as I ran over their kitten. Twice. FML

Dude you're ******* stupid.

I found a squirrel that had been hit by a car, I caught him and he was paralyzed from the waist down, but we made it so he could comfortably move around. He was just a wild baby squirrel that someone else hit and we got him fixed up and he lived a long healthy life for many years in our rescue. Tl;dr baby squirrel got hit by a car and survived and lived a very long while.

You're a monster. If you run over an animal, you get out to check it's condition, then make decisions. For all you know, no matter what animal it was, it could have been positioned under the wheel badly and a second roll would just hurt it more. I'm going to rant at you now. I ran over a opossum once, when he darted in front of my car. He died. I also ran over a squirrel once that darted in front of my car. I spent 20 minutes searching the road and surrounding grass for that squirrel, and finally had to admit defeat and leave. Once, as a young teen in Ohio, I was driving with a friend's dad, and a doe ran in front of us. She was badly injured, but moving. We panicked, and his father was not prepared with any means to put her out. Although we tried to block the road and used our highbeams on her, so cars would stop, a second car caught her and drug her another 50 feet down the root. She still moved. Then another car drug her the last 50 feet, where she finally lay still. It crippled me emotionally. In the future, try to keep a pair of gloves, a flashlight, emergency wildlife numbers and a legal gun in your car. This is your emergency kit. If you hit an animal, it is your responsibility. Check the animals condition. Call wildlife control, if possible, or the regular authorities. For domestic pets, take them to an SPCA or a Vet, or call the authorities. Occasionally, Opossums will have babies still alive in their pouch, and you're encouraged to check for them, if the mother is dead and you have protective covering, but otherwise do not, because of the risk of disease. If you can't get a gun, or don't approve, you should know someone who does have one. My family is full of hunters. Whenever someone hits a deer, which unfortunantly is common in my area, they call my Dad or an uncle, and they come to put the deer down. It saves so much suffering- the authorities often don't arrive quickly, if at all. As we take over everything with roads, we have to take responsibility for the creatures that suffer because of them. It doesn't matter if you're late for work or to dinner, or just want to go to bed, if you hit an animal in the road, it is your job to ensure that that life is not suffering. They have done nothing to deserve that kind of brutal agony, followed by a miserable death by infection or blood loss. Often times if they are not too badly injured the animal will flee, and in those cases there is nothing you can or should do. And don't run over a @#$%^&* kitten. That's @#$%)+ up.

Also, always try and gain permission from the authorities if a firearm has to be discharged, and never discharge in a city. In the counties, it's usually legal, but not in cities. I'm done now. This FML just aggravated me.
