Today, I ran over a squirrel. I saw it twitching, so I backed over it to end its suffering. It wasn't a squirrel; it was a kitten. The children it belonged to watched as I ran over their kitten. Twice. FML

OMG YDI...Watch where you're going when driving! If I was those kids, I would have beaten you up. It makes me sick when people are cruel to animals, if you had bene watching where you were driving to begin with, that could have been avoided. Congratulations, you're responsible for scarring kids for life and maybe putting them on the path of a serial killer, since most of those start with the death of an animal. God, what's wrong with the world...?

Holy over dramatization batman! How can you possibly get all that just from someone ACCIDENTALLY running over a kitten. I watched my two rabbits get attacked and killed by my neighbor's dog when I was 10 years old. I cried for days afterwards but I was not 'scarred for life' and I'm definitely not going to turn into a serial killer. Do you have any idea how stupid your post sounds? Those kids are probably perfectly fine. I bet they already have a new cat to replace the old one. It's not like he ran over their grandmother or something.

Holy fudge nuggets... How do people come to these dumb conclusions. They are not going to be serial killers because someone ran over their cat. If Op went into their house and made them murder their mother, took them away to the mountains and trained them to be ninja assassins then you mighth ave an argument. But someone backing over your cat does not make kids into monsters or scar them for life.

1. Serial killers start by killing animals, not by seeing them run over. 2.So he'd been paying attention, so he swerves and avoids the kitten, so he runs over one or both of the children. Happy now?

Its sad yes, but you did the right thing. The cat could have pretty much suffered, and that honestly is worse than just ending its pain right there. And seriously people, those who said OP's horrible, then well thats your opinion.

This is awful! But at least you put it out of it's misery.

I'm surprised so many people are saying the OP did the right thing and that there was no way the cat could have survived being hit by a car. Animals are tougher than we give them credit for. I've hit small animals like crows and lizards at 100km/h and once it was safe enough to pull over, I always go check on them....and sometimes (by some bizarre twist of fate) they're still alive. Sometimes they're even able to recover. I usually take injured animals to the local wildlife park (I live near bushland so we often find sick or injured animals on the side of the road), and you'd be surprised what sorts of injuries animals can recover from. I've seen lizards and snakes that look completely squashed by tires recover completely. It's really amazing how some animals even survive these types of things! Just because you hit something hard, doesn't mean it's definitely dead. Even if it's twitching, there's still a possibility of it being alive and able to recover. Who knows? Maybe the cat would have survived. Maybe the family would have paid for vet bills. I think it would have been the decent thing to at least check the cat before backing over it again.

YDI for running over the creature in the first place, but it is good that you tried to end it's suffering afterwards. I hope you bought the kids a new kitten at least...

i like that the grim reaper rides a tricycle - makes him seem friendly!

Um what ever happen to make sure its a squirrel and not a family pet I mean these kids are gonna need thereapy your sending them to therapist man

You could've stopped you know... You might have ruined your brakes but you'd have saved a life.

Really? You have no idea what the situation was and you are giving advice? Maybe they tried to stop, maybe they swerved and misjudged. Unfortunately, the space for an FML is too small for the OP to have told us for sure. Get over yourself and don't pass judgment on a situation you had no part in. Obviously the OP feels bad about this or else he/she wouldn't consider it an FML.
